High Jumper Blanka Vlasic and 800m runner David Rudisha will compete in Monaco on July 22nd for the 10th stage of the Samsung Diamond League. Both have been named World Athletes of the Year for 2010 during the World Athletics Gala last November in Monaco.
Rudisha had a really prolific year in 2010. Undefeated at 800m, he won the African Championships, the Diamond Race of the Samsung Diamond League, the Continental Cup, and above all he twice broke the World record which had stood to Dane Wilson Kipketer for 13 years, to establish a new mark of 1:41:01. Current world season leader in 2011 thanks to his 1:43.46 win in Nancy, David Rudisha from Kenya will come to Monaco with the intention of staying unbeaten and improving his 2011 best.
On her side as well, Croatian Blanka Vlasic won everything in 2010. She became World Indoor champion in Doha, European champion in Barcelona, took the Diamond Race Trophy of the Samsung Diamond League and was the Continental Cup winner. So far in 2011 she is leading the Diamond Race and the world with a season’s lead of 2.00m.
Monaco will be their last stop in the Samsung Diamond League before heading to the IAAF World Championships in Daegu, and Herculis will offer the spectators an ultimate confrontation of the champions against the world best in their events.
