The shot put event was expected to be very promising. Indeed, the best throwers were present in Monaco to compete, featuring Valerie Adams, Michelle Carter, Christina Schwanitz and Tia Brooks. German Schwanitz challenged Valerie’s lead when she threw 19.81m on her 5th attempt, taking the first position. However the New Zealander athlete Adams responded strongly by throwing a season best of 20.05 meters, taking therefore the gold medal!
