100m Men:
The podium of the American selections will be in the starting blocks of the 100m race, as Trayvon Bromell who achieved 9.77 this season, Ronnie Baker and Fred Kerley confirmed their presence in Monaco. Also present will be the Italian champions, Marcel Jacobs and Filippo Tortu as well as the French sprinter, Jimmy Vicaut.
200m Women:
For the women's 200m, the American champion Gabrielle Thomas, who ran a personal best of 21.61 on June 27th will compete against Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce, the 100m world champion, double Olympic champion in the 100m (2008 - 2012) and silver medalist in the 200m at the London Games.
800m Women:
For the 800m, the American Ajee Wilson, world leader and national record holder, which she set in Monaco in 2017 (1:55.61) will be alongside world champion, Halimah Nakkayi (1:58.04) and the Cuban Rose Mary Almanza, who just achieved the second world’s best performance of the year in 1:56.42.
800m Men:
This year, we will be able to count on the presence of Nijel Amos (BOT), who holds the Meeting record in 1:41.89 and Ferguson Rotich (KEN) who achieved his personal best in 1:42.84 in Monaco in 2014. Bryce Hoppel (USA) will also be racing. In 2020, the American finished second in the race and achieved his personal best of 1:43.23.
1500m Women:
Sifan Hassan (NED), Mile world record holder (4:12.33), which she set in Monaco and 1500m European record holder (3:51.95) will be up against Olympic champion Faith Kipyegon (KEN) timed at 3:53.91 this season.
1500m Men:
The 1500m will pit world leader and world champion Timothy Cheruiyot (KEN) against Jakob Ingebrigtsen (NOR). In 2020, the Norwegian had improved the European record in Monaco, finishing the race in 3:28.68.
400m Hurdles Men:
The two-time world champion in the discipline, Karsten Warholm (NOR), will face the American champion Benjamin Rai who improved his record in Eugene, Oregon, on the 26th of June(46.83).
3000m Steeplechase Women:
For the 3000m steeplechase, our eyes will be on the event’s world record holder, Beatrice Chepkoech (KEN). She achieved this record in Monaco in 2018 with a time of 8:44.32.
3000m Steeplechase Men:
The 3000m steeplechase will stage Benjamin Kigen (KEN), who achieved his personal best in Monaco in 2019 (8:05.12), and the French Djilali Bedrani, who holds a personal best of 8:05.23.
Long Jump Men:
In the long jump competition, world ranking leader Juan Miguel Echevarría (CUB) will face the reigning world champion Tajay Gayle (JAM). Decathlon world record holder Kevin Mayer (FRA) will make his season debuts in Monaco and will take the opportunity to finalize his preparation for Tokyo alongside them.
Triple Jump Women:
Two-time world champion and Rio Games silver medalist Yulimar Rojas (VEN) will be back in Monaco for the fourth time. The indoor world record holder (15.43m) has an outdoor personal best of 15.43m, only seven centimeters behind the world record mark.
High Jump Men:
Italian superstar Gianmarco Tamberi, who broke the Italian record in 2016 with a jump of 2m39 will be back in the Principality for the third time. He will face the 2021 European Indoor champion Maksim Nedasekau (BLR) as well as the leader of the world ranking, Ilya Ivanyuk (ANA).
Pole Vault Women:
For this 2021 edition, the world champion Anzhelika Sidorova will face the world leader Katie Nageotte (USA) whose personal records both stand at 4.95m. The duel promises to be intense!
Javelin Throw Women:
Finally, for the javelin throw competition, Maria Andrejczyk (POL) world leader with 71.40m will face the world champion of the discipline, Kelsey-Lee Barber (AUS) whose personal best is 67.70m and the Olympic champion, Sara Kolak (CRO).
