Since entering the IAAF Diamond League in 2010, the meeting Herculis has been the scene of a lot of races that made history. Just to name a few: Brimin Kipruto’s African record in 2011 on 3000SC in 7:53.64, only a hundredth of a second away from the world record. Asbel Kiprop’s amazing performance on 1500 in 3:27.71 last year, the fourth best performer of all times. In the same race, Mo Farah sets a new European record in 3:28.81. (Both Kipruto and Kiprop set the current Diamond League record).
However, figures are the best way to understand the density of middle-distance races in Monaco. In fact, since 2010: the average winning time for the 800m men is 1:43.14 and 1:57.87 for the 800m women. 7:58.57 for the 3000SC men and 8:33.46 for the 3000m women (for the first time in its history, the Herculis Diamond League is hosting a 5000m women this year). In addition to that, the average time of the previous four winners of the 1500m men is a titanic 3:29.08!
As a result, Herculis could only offer you what’s best this year. Kenyan SUM on 800m women, opposed to the very recent winner of the US Championships Ajee WILSON, they both eye this year’s current best performance of 1:57.74. As for the 1500m, the Kenyan Asbel KIPROP is heading back to the track of his feats with the determination of improving his Personal Best even more… On 5000m women, the triple recordwoman indoor Genzebe DIBABA will come as world leader with her victory in 14:34.99 in Rome against the Kenyan Mercy CHERONO, winner of the 2miles in Eugene. On 3000SC men, World Champion Ezekiel KEMBOI will face a tough competition embodied by the rising star of the discipline, Jairus BIRECH, winner in Rome and Oslo and world leader in 8:02.37. The duel should come from the 800m men where World Champion, Mohammed AMAN, winner in Doha and Rome, will run against Olympic Champion David RUDISHA. Their last encounter happened in Eugene this year, where the victory was taken by…vice Olympic Champion Nigel AMOS who set a world leading performance in 1:43.24, and will be present as well at Herculis.
We are all very eager to see all these champions on the Stade Louis II track and we guarantee you a show of the highest quality. See on July 18th 2014 in Stade Louis II Monaco!
