Athletics strongmen and their women colleagues will kick-off proceedings on the Port Hercule where a regulatory throwing area will be set up. Get ready for an amazing show as world’s best throwers will be there. Among them, the World Champion Tomas WALSH and the Olympic Champion Ryan CROUSER who will try to get close to the world record. Also there, the French Champion Frédéric DAGEE and Kevin MAYER, Decathlon’s World Champion. For the latter, this competition will be the perfect place to stretch his limits. In the women’s competition, the Olympic champion Michelle Carter, the World Champion Lijiao Gong and the famous Valerie Adams will be present.
Friday 20th July
The next day, 5 women and 6 men Diamond League events will take place on Louis II’s Track. Also two other races will occur: Men’s 800 m and Women’s 100m hurdles. On top of that, the crowd will be lucky to experience an amazing show since the famous DJ Martin SOLVEIG will at the beginning and at the end of the meeting.
Women’s events:
Starting with the pole vault, the World and Olympic champion, Katerina STEFANIDI will face the indoor World Whampion, Sandi MORRIS, as well as Eliza MCCARTNEY, Jennifer SUHR, and the French Champion and record holder, Ninon GUILLON-ROMARIN.
The 400m is an expected race as world medalist Salwa EID NASER will face the 2018 World leader, Shaunae MILLER-UIBO. World champion Phyllis FRANCIS and World Indoor Champion Shakima WIMBLEY will also be present.
The 100m hurdles will be impressive: 2012 Olympic champion Dawn HARPER-NELSON will go head to head with the young Yanique THOMPSON and the 400m hurdles World Champion, Kori CARTER.
For the 3000m steeplechase, World’s best athletes will stand shoulder to shoulder for a really fast race. World Champion Emma COBURN, World Leader Beatrice CHEPKOECH, World junior record woman Celliphine CHESPOL and Oslo’s winner Hyvin KIYENG will try to break the symbolic 9-minute barrier.
For the 100m, in the starting blocks, Marie-Josée TA LOU will compete against the 100 and 200m Olympic Champion, Elaine THOMPSON and the 200m champion Dafné SCHIPPERS.
Finally, the 800m race will be very fast. Caster SEMENYA will try and improve her personal best and Diamond League record of of 1’54’’25 set in Paris (less than 1 second from the world record). Guided by a pacemaker, she will be followed by the Olympic and World medalists, Francine NIYONSABA and Margaret Nyairera WAMBUI as well as the French Champion Renelle LAMOTE.
Men’s events:
For the triple jump, Christian TAYLOR, Olympic and World Champion, will be challenged by Pedro PICHARDO for a high-quality contest since both of them already jumped more than 18m. Along with them, the French Harold CORREA and Jean-Marc PONTVIANNE, respectively French Champions in 2018 and 2017.
For the high jump contest, the Indoor World champion, Danil LYSENKO and bronze medalist in London, Majd Eddin GHAZAL will be looked at. Also present, Gianmarco TAMBERI, the Meeting and Italian record holder will be supported by his Italian fans for his big comeback in Monaco. Unfortunately, due to an ankle injury, Mutaz BARSHIM, won’t be able to perform.
For the 800m, World and French champion Pierre-Ambroise BOSSE will compete against current World’s best performance owner, Michael SARUNI, World leader, Nijel AMOS and European leader, Saùl ORDÓÑEZ.
For the 1500m, all the best athletes will race on Louis II’s track. World Champion Elijah MANANGOI, Olympic Champion Matthew CENTROWITZ, World leader Timothy CHERUIYOT and more will try to run under 3’28. Stay tuned …
Pascal MARTINOT-LAGARDE, who established a French record in Monaco in 2014 will be racing for an amazing 110m hurdles. On his sides, World leader, Sergey SHUBENKOV, Aries MERRITT, World record holder and Orlando ORTEGA, World silver medallist. Kevin MAYER will be there as well to compete against the world’s elite for the first time.
For the 200m, get ready for a huge duel between the world Champion Ramil GULIYEV and the rising star Noah Lyles. A race you don’t want to miss!
Eventually, Conselsus KIPRUTO, Soufiane EL BAKKALI et Evan JAGERL will run the 3000m steeplechase and try to break the 8-minute barrier.
