Gianmarco TAMBERI is a familiar face at the Herculis EBS meeting. The then World indoor champion and European champion of 2016, the Italian high jumper made the most of his run-up to set a new Italian record, erasing the previous best jump of 2.39m before injuring himself in an attempt at 2.41m. Back on his A game, the fantastic Italian once again intends to make the most of the Monacan atmosphere to perform well in front of his fans who traditionally crowd the public gallery.
For his part, Filippo TORTU will be debuting in Monaco in the 200m. European Junior Champion in the 100m and World No.2 behind Noah LYLES, who will also be on the start line, TORTU will be running in the footsteps of his illustrious forerunner and compatriot Pietro MENNEA and will be gunning for a personal best (20''34 in 2017). Signed up for the Golden Gala in Rome next Thursday in the 100m, he’s just beaten his previous best performance over the star distance with a time of 10’’03, two hundredths of a second off MENNEA’s Italian record.
