Commenting first of all on the female athletes, Maria LASITSKENE (tough name to write, but easy to love) with a jump of 2.06m, managed to achieve the best jump worldwide this year, along with the 5th best jump known to this day, and Lausanne’s Meeting’s record height. LASITSKENE gave her best shot at beating a world record set by the Bulgarian high jumper Stefka KOSTADINOVA, 2.10m, but unfortunately did not manage to do so. Regardless of the matter, her performance on the night was outstanding, and extremely entertaining to all viewers. The American 400m Hurdles runner Ashley SPENCER won a spectacular race in an incredible time of 53”90. Another runner who noticeably stood out was Francine NIOYNSABA in the Women’s 800m, who was in the lead and remained in that position over the last 550m, and finished in a time of 1’56”82.
On behalf on the male athletes, pole vault athlete Renaud LAVILLENIE came in third place in a very competitive event, with a jump of 5.87m. South African, 400m World Record holder Wayde VAN-NIEKERK beautifully sprinted his way to first place in his race, running it in 43”62, the fastest time this year, a Diamond League record as well as a Lausanne Meeting record.
