{"id":1456,"date":"2024-04-02T11:48:42","date_gmt":"2024-04-02T11:48:42","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/monaco.diamondleague.com\/2024\/04\/02\/a-first-commitment-to-sustainability\/"},"modified":"2024-04-02T11:48:42","modified_gmt":"2024-04-02T11:48:42","slug":"a-first-commitment-to-sustainability","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/monaco.diamondleague.com\/en\/a-first-commitment-to-sustainability\/","title":{"rendered":"A first commitment to sustainability"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In June 2023, the <strong>Monegasque Athletics Federation<\/strong> (FMA) took a new turn towards sustainability by following the recommendations of the <strong>Monegasque Mission for Energy Transition<\/strong> (MTE).<\/p>\n<p>As part of its flagship events, the <strong>Herculis EBS Meeting<\/strong>, member of the Wanda Diamond League, the FMA conducted a thorough assessment of its carbon footprint during the 2023 edition, which took place last July 21st. With the support of the Monegasque company <strong>Gienov<\/strong>, the final report was established in March 2024.<\/p>\n<p> This report highlights several crucial points that will guide the FMA&#8217;s future actions. Among these, it emerges that <strong>88.5% of emissions<\/strong> are attributable to the transportation of spectators and athletes, <strong>9.4% to materials<\/strong>, and only <strong>0.3% to waste<\/strong>. Regarding this last point, measures have already been implemented to reduce the use of single-use plastic, with nearly <strong>27 kg of plastic avoided<\/strong> through the installation of water fountains for athletes.<\/p>\n<p>This assessment marks the beginning of a series of initiatives by the FMA, which is now focusing on improving public transportation, among other things. Other steps are already underway, such as the pursuit of <strong>ISO 20121 certification<\/strong>.
