A record 5km Herculis at the Monaco Run
For its 10th anniversary, the Monaco Run was a resounding success, adding a new world record to its list of achievements in the flagship Herculis 5km event.
In total, more than 1,500 participants took part in the four events. On Saturday, 1000m races were organised to mark the Running Expo and gave 130 runners, young and old, the opportunity to work out. On Sunday was the City Trail, the traditional Pink Ribbon Walk and the 5km Herculis.
On Sunday morning, at 10:15, during the 5km Herculis, Joshua CHEPTEGEI marked the history of the Principality by breaking the world record for the 5km road race with a time of 12:51. In optimal climatic conditions, the Ugandan, world champion in the 10,000m, closed this weekend of athletics in style. Following on from this, Jimmy GRESSIER set the new European record, completing the distance in 13:18, 11 seconds less than Julien WANDERS did last year on the same course. In third place, Nick GOOLAB beat the UK record in 13:27. Finishing in 7th position, Krilan LE BIHAN took the record of France Espoirs in 14:01.
In the women's category, Liv WESTPHAL set a new French record, crossing the finish line in 15:31. Behind her, Sarah BENFARES took the Junior and U23 French records in 16:34.
For this event, more than 380 runners took the start alongside great international athletes. It was an opportunity for them to live the experience of a high level race and to measure themselves against the best. See you on 13 and 14 February next year for the 11th edition of the Monaco Run, which promises to be full of promise.
